Robin Blakney-Carlson, Luckystone Feltworks Studio
Robin Blakney-Carlson is a felting instructor and fiber artist at Luckystone Feltworks Studio in Glens Falls, New York. She began felting in the mid '90s, under the tutelage of her sister, Polly Stirling. Polly is best known for developing the technique she coined nuno felt.
Robin continues to study with many internationally known feltmakers, exploring a range of techniques.
She writes, “Making wearables is second nature to me, but the medium of felt expands the potential for exploration in every direction. My mother was an artist and an expert seamstress. She taught me to respect the need to create something uncommon, with a requisite technical skill. When I am felting, I find my sense of balance; it's a very tactile, meditative process.”
Robin is most drawn to combining fibers and textiles in wearable art and felt collage. She finds teaching felt making a perfect job.
